Battery, solar or plug-in? Start with the location.
Match the power supply to how often you need the camera to record.
Map the installation before the specification
Check Wi-Fi at the intended camera height, the view of the entrance and access for charging or maintenance. A wire-free camera still needs charging. A plug-in camera still needs a suitable power route even when it connects over Wi-Fi. Keep the camera and power-adapter weather ratings separate.
Read battery claims with their assumptions
Tapo lists up to 300 days for C425 under 230 seconds of daily use in its own testing, falling to 180 days at 360 seconds. Activity, viewing, temperature and networking change the result. A solar panel can reduce charging visits, but shade, season and orientation still matter. It is not a guarantee of permanent power.
Continuous recording is a separate requirement
Do not infer 24/7 recording from a camera being available in an app. Tapo D225 specifically ties continuous recording to its supported hardwired mode, which does not use the existing chime in that mode. The eufy S350 documents 24/7 recording for an indoor powered setup. Check the exact recording modes before purchasing.
